Protective Supervision
An IHSS service authorization, up to about 195 hours per month, that pays for in-home supervision of a person with cognitive impairment who cannot safely be left alone.
Protective Supervision is the IHSS authorization most often missed. For a Medi-Cal recipient with documented cognitive impairment who cannot safely be left alone, it can authorize a large block of paid in-home hours, sometimes including hours a family member is paid for. It can change the math on whether staying at home is feasible instead of moving to memory care.
